About Jan

What about me???
I always loved exploring derelict, disused and abandoned buildings long before this sort of activity was called urban exploration. My favourite types of "urbexees" are factories and I've been interested in industrial architecture, local history and archaeology as long as I can remember. I really admired Fred Dibnah.
I also like tunnels, mineshafts, caves, anything subterranean. I'd prefer not to go anywhere where there is a danger of flash floods. I love my gorgeous strap-on head light.
I like railways, stations, network diagrams, maps, timetables and travelling by train- but I am not a trainspotter, well maybe I am. But I don't own an anorak. Actually, maybe I do...
I am interested in forensic pathology, specifically identification of bodies and pinpointing the time of death but I am not a ghoul.
Most of my hobbies involve rooting around in the dark and generally acting suspiciously (Urbexing, Guerrilla Gardening, Geocaching, Metal Dectoring spring to mind).
My favourite possession is a CD compiled by my boyfriend entitled "June 2002".
I love the films "Oliver!" and "Waterloo Bridge".
I enter more competitions than is probably normal. I probably spend far too much time online.

I like white gloss paint and 70s interior décor (to a point, obviously).
Knowledge is power. I collect leaflets compulsively and take great pride in my information retrieval systems. In an alternative universe I am dispensing great wisdom from my resource centre/café.
I don't have a particular look/image/style - what grown-up woman does?
I am always on time for appointments. Being late = being rude.
I married the love of my life.
I like free samples, bargains, charity shops, junkyards and jumble sales.
DON'T PATRONISE ME - JUST DON'T
I love flowers. Any. From showy-off vulgar Birds of Paradise to demure long stemmed white lilies - I love them all.
Hindu folklore has always fascinated me. I especially like Radha and Krsna's story.
I really did not think I could stop smoking - but did. Thanks Nigel.
An ex is an ex is an ex. Get over it.
I like Russian iconography, Jack Vettriano, Hindu art and Eve Arnold's photography.
I don't think I have ever felt lonely.
I remember the most insignificant things.
My digital camera (Olympus C-350)was my best birthday present ever.
Book Crossing is fun.
There is no greater feeling in the world than being in love with the person who loves you back. I want that feeling to last forever.
I really like HBO's series The Sopranos and the accompanying soundtrack.
I will never be one of those people that others describe as "a lovely person" - thank Christ.
I like to think the Angel of the North is my very own guardian.
I can make an origami flapping bird very quickly.
Using my tumble dryer is one of my few guilty eco pleasures. I'm quite green most of the time.
I am less selfish than 92% of people I know.
You can never have too many mirrors.
My absolute favourite flavour is almond. I love marzipan and 99% of anything rustled up by Nigel.
Sometimes I just can't believe I'm an adult with three kids.
I am always searching for the perfect handbag/purse and for shoes/boots that fit. Probably always will be. Consequently, I never carry a handbag or purse and my feet always hurt.
I love BIG heels.
There is nothing more peaceful than watching those you love sleep soundly.
I collect Ladybird Books 606D Series (Well-loved tales).
I don't trust easily. The worst thing you could do to me would be to betray my trust. The breaking of a trust, a promise or a heart is truly like a physical pain.
If I had loads of time, babysitters, inclination, energy etc I would
explore East Lothian; apply full make-up (including false eyelashes
and contact lenses) every day; learn to drive; flog stuff on eBay; master
Dreamweaver; garden, learn to dive; redecorate the London pad, read complete
works of Dickens; urbex.
